Funtana is a fishermen's, agricultural and tourist village on the western coast of Istria, settled between the tourist towns Vrsar and Poreč. This territory is spreading from Zelena Laguna in the West till Valkanela in the South. This area of the Istrian coast is abounding in bays, peninsulas and islands. Funtana has some 1000 inhabitants. Funtana is surrounded by hilly countryside covered with vineyards, olive groves, fields and meadows, oak and pine woods that are frequently spreading till the shoreline.
Today Funtana is a place, or to be more precise, a village which is not narrowed to the area around the castle and the parish church. Family homes have been built on both sides of the main road connecting Poreč and Vrsar, and it is hard to find a family here that does not offer tourist accommodation under its roof during summers. And one more thing: it is difficult to find another place in Istria where so many restaurants, taverns and café bars are situated in such a small region.
